You capture the little moments and thoughts on your mind, and Goldfish helps you gently revisit them over time so your memory gets a friendly workout. This page answers the questions we hear most. How do I get started?
Open Goldfish and say hello to your fish! When something's On Your Mind, tap to jot it down — a moment from your day, a name, a little detail you'd like to hold onto. Each thing you keep becomes a card in your Memories timeline. From there, Goldfish nudges you to recall your memories through Daily Recall and gentle Reminders, and your Profile tracks three playful trait scores — Observation, Reflection, and Retention — as you go. Feed your fish, dress it up, and check in whenever you like. There's no account to create and no sign-up — you can start right away.
What is Goldfish+?
Goldfish+ is an optional auto-renewable subscription that unlocks the deeper features:
- AI Randomized Recall — smart, freshly-generated recall questions (with friendly grading) that keep your practice varied.
- Weekly and monthly recaps — bigger-picture looks back at what you've been keeping and recalling.
Goldfish+ comes with a 3-day free trial, then renews at $11.99/month until canceled. It also includes exclusive fish skins, like the Oranda. Cosmetic hats and scales for your fish are unlocked with Stars, the in-app currency you earn just by using Goldfish — always free, never real money.
Everything Goldfish+ does is about helping you practice and enjoy remembering. Goldfish is a memory-training and journaling companion, not a medical or health app, and it doesn't diagnose, treat, or prevent any condition.
How do I restore my purchases?
Got a new phone, or reinstalled the app? On the Goldfish+ screen, tap Restore to bring back your active Goldfish+ subscription tied to your Apple ID. Make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID you originally purchased with. If anything doesn't come back, email us at liamrr18@gmail.com and we'll help sort it out.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, so you cancel through your device — not inside Goldfish. To cancel:
1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Tap your name at the top (Apple ID).
3. Tap Subscriptions.
4. Select Goldfish+, then tap Cancel Subscription.
You'll keep your Goldfish+ features until the end of the current billing period. If you're still in the 3-day free trial, cancel before it ends to avoid being charged.
How do I delete my data?
Your memories live only on your device — there's no cloud account holding a copy. Because of that, deleting the Goldfish app from your iPhone permanently removes all of your Goldfish data, including your memories, recall history, Stars, and settings. This can't be undone, so export or note down anything you'd like to keep first. If you have questions about your data, reach out to liamrr18@gmail.com.
Is my data private?
Yes — privacy is built into how Goldfish works.
- Local-first by design. Your memories, recall history, Stars, and settings are stored only on your device. There are no accounts, no logins, and no analytics or tracking.
- Your photos stay put. Any photos you attach to a memory remain on your device and are never uploaded.
- The one exception — AI Randomized Recall. When you use this Goldfish+ feature, the text of the memory you're practicing (and, when grading, your typed answer) is sent securely over HTTPS to help generate and score a recall question. It passes through a stateless relay that doesn't log or store your content and sends no name or device identifier, on to Anthropic's Claude AI, which processes it transiently and does not use it to train its models.
- Purchases. Subscriptions and in-app purchases are handled by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, which keeps purchase records tied to an anonymous ID — never your name or contact info.
- Onboarding answers stay in the moment. Anything you share during setup for a more personal experience is kept only for that session and is never saved or transmitted.
